Talking heads with messages
How quaint; talking heads that actually kept my attention for the whole segment. CBC, you’re coming of age.
There’s a need (in the eyes of central Canada) to understand the last few days in downtown TO. After all, when you haven’t had a Stanley Cup riot in the memory of mankind, and the main attraction of your city core is a tower that is no longer a) tallest or b) CNish, the simple fact of noisy crowds is difficult to “get your head around”. CBC has been trying (very trying). Tonight, we hit three home runs in a row.
First pony out of the gate – Tom Flanagan. The voice behind the Harper dummy. Not a man I’d want to sit beside on a crowded bus, but he probably doesn’t take the bus. Too common. He assured us that whatever happened to the 900 arrested citizens (the number is on an exponential curve) was their fault. If you aren’t a radical extremist commie pinko, stay home.
Next in the chase – Naomi Klein. Canadian, literate. Able to see beyond the corporate hype (her book, No Logo, is a keeper). She came this close to saying that the real radical extremists were behind the fences; not outside in the world with the rest of us. Dangerous dialog on CBC (although certain of the governmental persuasion think that the corporation is actually the Antichrist, wrapped in bad radio programming).
Third, but not least – Michael Porter. Hey, I don’t run in economic circles, but I’d heard of him. His message is that Harper (the dummy mentioned earlier) doesn’t have the game plan we need for a greener future. Carbon taxation is actually a good thing. Now if only the people around me would listen.
