Good game

posted in politics |

In a TV world that is almost always filled with American content, i watched a football game today that was a welcome change. Local football.

Laval University is a relative newcomer to the Canadian inter-university circuit, but they’ve made up for it by fielding consistently powerful teams. Canadian championships in the trophy case for three of the last seven years. Nothing shabby there. A sport club that now packs the ground around the field (no stadium yet) and has learned to “tail-gate” with the best of them.

I haven’t been out to campus for a game; some things just don’t fit the schedule too well, but to kick back and watch the game from home is nice. I can get supper started on time, go to the fridge when I want, and never miss a phone call. Plus, the play-by-play doesn’t attract too many sponsored minutes, so all the action is shown, often with decent replays. A football watcher bonus.

If your local sports network carries it, watch the kids from the Laval club. The historical tradition may be lacking, but the game is good. They won again today, in overtime…
