You are what you read
You are what you read. By extension, “It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.” Thank you, Mr. Wilde. Now if I can put some order into that pile of books on the side table, I can begin to forecast, well, something.
I’m not reading any less than before. There’s usually a book or a magazine close at hand, any time I’m away from the keyboard (and screen). A whole world of literature, and I’m not going to get it all read before that bitter end. Perhaps I’m going to have to get one of those lists. You know, the 100 books to read before whenever.
Pity that my local library system is all second language stuff…
I wonder if the online book dealers would like to adopt me for a decade or two. In return for sending along whatever catches my eye, I’ll send them cards at seasonal times. What about a Netflix for books? I could pay for a subscription service that met my needs. Surely someone has already got the business model on file at the local venture capitalist office.
And then there’s delivery. Even as the post office unplugs from the personal letter feed, it has made great leaps in package delivery. I’ve received more than a few boxes with my name on them, posted at different sites around the world and they all share one thing; they all arrived. In a timely fashion, undamaged, for a reasonable price. Books and the postal truck; an unbeatable combo.
