Reviewing the chariot races

posted in education |

I’m not alone in seeking movies with an Easter (sort of) theme. There’s nothing else on TV today. And, given the beautiful weather we’re having, I’ve done the exact opposite of those suffering from spring fever; I’ve stayed inside and allowed the magic of cinema to keep me entranced.

From the time we turned on the TV this morning, we’ve had to try and understand what on earth life in Rome was like. After all, Ben Hur was involved in the mother of all chariot races while I waited for my morning coffee to cool. Now I know where the James Bond crowd got their idea for those neat tire-shredding wheels.

I didn’t bother with some of the old movies on tap, but a new version of Ben Hur captured our attention this evening. This movie is in two parts, so I’ll have to wait how chariot races are handled in this epic tale, but Kristin Kreuk has finally graduated from life in Smallville. Hallelujah!

Supper saw me with a bag of frozen shrimp and a will to learn how to cook them. The professional deveiners made that step easy, and I could handle removing the tails, so we were able to have a homestyle surf ‘n turf as our holiday fare. Lamb preparation will wait for another year.

We used to play a game called “Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?” Tonight, using the advantage of Google, I was able to track down some family members that have gone to sea. Itinerary, real-time tracking, photos of the ship; all available once you “connect the dots”.
