The holidays are hard on the economy
Although CNN is staying focused (all the same news, over and over, all the time) on a near miss by a terrorist on a plane from somewhere to somewhere, let’s get back to my problems. After all, I don’t intend to fly to somewhere any time soon, and so the circus in airports around the world remains a side ring. The big show is right here.
Do you realize what kind of delays are caused by holiday periods? With a simple decision to take a few days off with family and friends, the nations of the world can slow the routine of millions to a crawl. Tomorrow, the garbage collect will pass on my street, removing 17 days of accumulated surplus. My blue bin can’t hold another muffin box, I swear.
We’ve had more snow, and the streets are down to one lane wide and cluttered. We’ve changed to a smaller car since this time last year; slow for a lump in the road and expect to spin your way to glory.
The milk truck has decided to disappear for a couple of weeks, and as recently as one week ago, my refrigerator had twenty litres stockpiled. Milk is sold by volume, folks, just like refrigerators; we were close to requiring a liquid diet for a few days. Happily, the son affectionately known as “the calf” was up to the task, so I bought more today.
The television is showing “The Sound of Music” on more than one channel; proof that even the networking people are on holiday and have left programming choices up to the old fella who sleeps behind the boiler. We need to get back on target.
