Barring a few technical difficulties
Ah, technology. Loved and needed, rarely abandoned unless something “better” stumbles into view.
Tonight, I had a request to find a lost file, so after making sure that the missing wasn’t misplaced, I went and brought our Backup-Drive into view…
I have an external hard drive case with an extra hard drive inside, and back before the summer, I diligently did a copy of the two laptop machines in use around here. No problem. Except that the file had been created after the copy was taken, so now the file is “well and truly gone”.
No time like now to take a fresh copy; after all, next time will arrive. But, the drive suddenly participated in the euphemous BSOD which Microsoft so graciously offers as a balm when the shooting starts. Restart. BSOD. Something is wrong here. Turns out that the dog had tripped over both the power and USB cable and those around forgot to mention the event.
So, the drive has been reformatted, and new backups have been taken and the additional safety of a copy on yet another machine has been made. Elapsed time; roughly the whole evening. No matter, time is cheap. Will it work next time? Let’s leave that as a mystery for now…
