New bed and new taste

posted in food |

My own, personal Tower of Hanoi. Today we moved beds around, and given that the house contains a few other articles of furniture, things had to be done with forethought. By the time the dust settled we had one brand new bed in place and four other adjustments as followthrough.

First things first. Changing your bed can be a risky move, unless you like pretending that motels are a good choice for a night’s rest. My new bed had its first test drive this afternoon, and I had no difficulty getting into alpha waves and slowed respiration. I may even have snored, although that has never been proven to my satisfaction.

There is still one bed that must go to the ecocentre, but I can call the city next week and make arrangements. The stressful part is over.

Trying new spices is fun. The rule of thumb is that less is better, until you get your tongue around the particularities. Today, I opened a jar of Jamaican Jerk Seasoning that we picked up while shopping in a different city. With two flats of pork and great barbecue weather, I dipped my finger into the jar and immediately realized that I was playing with fire here. I cut my expectations back, mixing several tablespoons of jerk into some olive oil and using this as a light sauce.

The results were great, as long as a glass of milk was available. We mixed pork with rice and pretended that we could handle spicy food. We are such rookies! My intent to try a genuine Jamaican restaurant some time soon is now stronger than ever.
