Different diet

posted in health |

I set out to replace our good flashlight this afternoon (the stalwart MagLite has gone “missing in action” to my chagrin) but my departure was late enough that all the box stores had just closed. Mañana.

I did decide to pick up some groceries. Well, not exactly; I debated going to Harvey’s for a burger but realized that it would be economically beneficial to cook at home, where I could feed many mouths for the cost of one at the fast food counter. Such are the sacrifices one makes… The food store along the way would be as good as any, I rationalized.

I’m not given to brand loyalty. I actually choose generics whenever possible. Still, we do get accustomed to the layout and choice of merchandise offered at a particular foodstore. My shock at this “new territory” is that the choice of frozen foods is enormous. Gargantuan. Sign of an impending ice age.

I’ve not seen cod, sole, halibut and other rare fish on sale for a long time. Who would have thought there could be such variety in frozen chicken wings (although Wild Wings in Orillia should have prepared me). Do I really need to get a larger freezer? Look, fish cakes! Popsicles! Frozen fruits!

It is rare that I bring home a shopping cartload of stuff that is temperature sensitive. Thank goodness the traffic has died down…
