Ode to joy

Our various languages have developed an array of adjectives that can describe sentiments. We all use them, and if you hear or read the phrase that describes a particular one, such as sorrow or joy or whatever, you “get the idea”.

I wish we had a similar lexicon for our dogs. I’ve heard my dog show fear, or aggression or curiosity, but today was the first time I’ve heard her express what could only be joy. A dog-buddy arrived at the front door, and our white beast let out a sound that was new to me, as she dashed through the house. Where are the tape recorders when we need them? After quickly dressing her to go outside and play (visualize a leash), off she went to wherever dogs go to play. But that sound will stay with me…>
