Check , un deux
This week is Festival d’Été here in Quebec City with a wealth of talent showcased on a number of stages around the city centre. Admittedly, not as rich in Celtic talent as a few years back, but Dublin wasn’t built in a day. Anyhow, I’ve not been up to the “real shows” given my advanced age and requirement that I show up at work each morning; too late for beauty sleep perhaps, but the alarm still rings whether I’m sufficiently rested.
My bus transfer point has changed this week to allow me to take in as many sound checks as possible, though. Some, such as Dobacaracol or Kelly Joe Phelps have been so short as to be illusions, but I did manage to arrive, yesterday, just in time for Yves Lambert and the gang, lately of Bottine Souriante. The technical went on for just short of forty-five minutes and ended with a brief concert, just before my bus. Under a full sun, with a place just to the side of the stage; I could only have had better if I’d been ON stage, with a fiddle or something. Great way to see one of the better traditional performers in something other than a concert setting!
