For want of a clip or three
There are many things I would purchase, if only I could. Some are less significant than others, but just the same, I’d buy them if only I could. Right now, I want some clips for my microphones, and some windscreens would be nice. However, I refuse, as a reasonable consumer, to pay three times the sales price of an object just to have it delivered to a post office near here. There are limits.
Picture this; a journalist, out in front of the TV camera, waiting for the soundbite that will make his career. In his hand, the “Hammer”. For those who don’t track the tools of the trade, I’m referring to the EV635A microphone. I have seen one thrown from a fourth storey window, plugged into the cable at the newsman’s feet seconds before going live. Try that with your usual karaoke microphone.
Or picture a lectern, with a porcupine’s back worth of microphones, all identified with those fancy network logos. In almost every case, an EV635A. If I sound like an ad, it’s because I want the company to take mercy on me and send me a few clips and windscreens. After all, they have part numbers and there are any number of websites and eBay auctions that can provide the part. But here’s the glitch. Shipping.
The ratio seems to be stuck at 3X, shipping to price. I am unwilling to pay $35 to ship something selling for $11.50; it goes against everything I’ve ever known about wise consumer habits. There are three microphones here, and I have only two hands available, so a clip and stand will be needed to do anything remotely useful. I have the stands, but duct tape is not the answer to every question.
Come on, ElectroVoice. My mention for your largess. Call me.
