But there’s no Right-Click

posted in computing |

Just before lunch, I helped a colleague to introduce his new MacBook Pro to our office network environment; connectivity, printing, etc. Some reactions are in order…

Shiny, pretty, Dashboardy. The networking is easy. Printing requires a few hoops to be navigated. Forget simply changing the name on the printer; NO RIGHT-CLICK… transferring the residue of two years email and documents is more time-consuming than you might suspect, but patience is a virtue. The power supply is ridiculous. I have to come back to the fact that there is NO RIGHT-CLICK. Software installs easily, but the shortcuts hide in the oddest of places. Open Source rules.

Do I want to trade my trusty Dell in on one? Well, depends on how much cash Apple is willing to throw in to sweeten the deal. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it; the machine is shiny and pretty, though.
