Short supply of chips
Our emergency provisions have been delivered; let the winter begin. For the “need to know” group, that means a lot of freshly roasted coffee. All of the same variety. Believe me, trying to get any quantity of “fuel” for the espresso machine, locally, is an act fraught with frustration. There’s a lot of good coffee, out there. There’s a lot more of absolute rotgut. I have my priorities straight.
And in keeping with the new rules on who shall see whom, the post person deposited the large box on the doorstep and beat a retreat. I barely had time to shout my thanks before the car sped out of sight.
Elsewhere… what does that even mean, any more? My frontier has been brought in to the limits of the property. I don’t get out, and the rest of the world accepts that as a compromise. Less chance of a fatal interaction. Personal contact requires a telephone, a valid email address or strong telepathic powers. I have friends that I haven’t seen in years (and I count them among my close contacts. There rest of you are fondly remembered.
Food for thought, technically. I listened to a video that opened and closed with a simple claim: the DSLR is dead. In the world of photography, I have owned a few, but only for a few years. With the constant chase to keep the cash flow constant, in lock step with the shortage of computer chips (this affects a lot more than photography) the big names are abandoning their traditional customers and moving to “mirror-less”. I’m not there, yet. I will keep my current cameras going for as long as I practically can. Hey, I made it through the transition away from silver salts, and now I’m too stubborn to change direction again. Shaking my fist, virtually.’
They’re doing it to radios, as well. If you have never tuned a regenerative receiver, it just means that you are much younger than some of us. I like the world of SDR, but I appreciate a big variable capacitor. At least antennas haven’t “evolved”. I hope. Copper wire is expensive, and prone to kinks. Maybe the world does need to evolve. I’ll ponder that one, while supper simmers.
