Wander, carefully
In a case where “they couldn’t see the forest for the trees”, a young man has been found. Unfortunately, too late. Reported missing in late summer, there were people searching. Rewards for information were offered. And now, almost three months later, the end of the search. I look at the maps (a small island off the coast of another island), and the term search becomes nuanced. My sympathies to his family and friends.
Safety is an illusion. People dies, in their own homes. And in their own yards. Locally, we believe that our forests are minor league; the bears have been gone for several lifetimes. Except… what if a tree falls, just where you happen to be standing? And such things do happen. What about finding out that the wetland is a synonym for bog, with all the hazards that can offer. Or a slippery slope? All possible ways to learn about injury. At a minimum, bring a friend along, when you wander. And if you have a poorly developed sense of direction, a GPS or a tracking telephone might be more than a frivolity. Just saying.
Our family navy was out and about, today. I have a sneaking suspicion that the waters are cold, now that summer is gone. The dog doesn’t swim at this time of year; maybe he’s smarter than we think.
If the court sends you a “sub poena”, do you have to respond? We’re watching the drama south of here, where political affiliation tends to numb common sense. Just saying that you don’t think the law applies to YOU provides little protection, in a functioning society.
