Almost a memory moment
On my timeline, a photo of a rock band with a familiar name. In fact, the guitar player was the band leader, back when they performed at my high school, a full half-century ago. I will squash the name, to protect the aged. But here’s the thing; since we don’t get much live music nowadays (blame it on the pandemic, or the fulgurant cost of tickets, or whatever). The memories of the bands we did see hold a special niche in the brain.
In my case, I never actually saw anyone famous perform. Didn’t need to; because a live performance was good for a few hours. We had records! The LP, followed by the CD and the MP3. All allowed revisiting those concert moments, over and over again.
I though about sending a link to the aforementioned concert along, to my closest sibling. She didn’t actually attend the show. Nor did I, but I remember all the reported details in the cafeteria, come Monday: “The band just sat there and played slow blues songs. No jumping!” I guess that you had to be there to really appreciate the moment. And I did buy the LP, which was the point of the band coming north to a small high school gym. Got to move the merchandise.
Another confession: I rarely bought the ‘merch, either. Too poor for such things. Besides, if the band was good enough, their hit single would be playlisted on local radio, and for several weeks you couldn’t escape the moment. Ahh, the good old days.
For those who really need to revisit the memories, we now have YouTube, where old bands refuse to disappear.
