Inspired by a cappella airs
Moving beyond the Pitch Perfect model, there’s a lot of other a cappella out there. Open your browser, surf over to YT and follow the threads.
We don’t all have a basement full of musical instruments, or the decades required for mastery, but unless you’ve gone into that sad world of laryngitis, you can still play. Sing, I mean. I now want to dig out my microphones, get some recording software that is suitably versatile, climb into the new shower stall (no water required) and see what I can do to make the sonic world better. I have no illusions about composition; copying others is fine. I mean, if I don’t seek money, I shouldn’t have to pay any royalties. Right? Must read up on this.
Of course, it’s just fair use, in my own basement. The neighbours won’t even hear me, and the dog is willing to listen without efforts to harmonize. That blue-eyed mutt from up the road; less sure.
Isn’t music what the world needs. 24/7. Multiple channels. Not all at once, naturally. Harmony will follow. Actually, I want the kids to come east for a lyrical vacation. We can hold impromptu practices in the dunes, and use the sea as a drone. Sooner or later, I will turn on a recorder (the kind that registers sounds, not the woodwind). Or maybe that, too. Keep us all in the same register.
I can dream.
Today was another lawn care day, which means that I stayed out of harm’s way and amused the dog. Keeps him clear of dangerous machinery.
