Checking the log

posted in travel |

Part of the default feature set of our RV is a generator.  I’ve started it, once of twice; proof that it works. And since we have always found reliable A/C for the AC while in campgrounds, I seriously ignored it. Noisy, and it requires LP gas which is on the list of “learn how to get more”. Anyhow, the question came up in one of the online forums about deciding if an oil change is overdue, and I decided that I needed to better understand things.

With the manuals, and a couple of YT videos, I was better  prepared. This rig is already five years old, and it came to us with incomplete logs. Things started without hesitation, and while looking at the tiny controller screen, I watched the counter go from 1.4 to 1.5 (could this be an error message?)

Actually, the genny has a total runtime of less than two HOURS, not two hundred. We’re good for another year of parked at home waiting for the all clear. Next on the list will be checking the air pressure in all of the tires. I told you, we’re still newbies.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve watched a number of fix-it videos. Even if things aren’t broken, they will be eventually, and some of the service needs are clearly in my area of responsibility. That is, parked in my driveway. Better to learn a little before I need to learn a lot. Should I camp out, tonight? Not quite that keen. I could just go out and watch the sun set.
