How much do you charge (to charge a car)?

posted in Uncategorized |

How can I keep up with all the excitement? Well, I can blog about it, for a start. Today, we changed the winter tires for the summer tires. Not us, exactly; the local garage. And because we don’t need to go anyplace, the car decided to stay away for the night, and get an oil change done. I warned you. My life is just one little jolt of excitement followed by another.

Now, this car is a hybrid. I have no idea what that actually means, since it doesn’t get plugged in. But given my interest in such things, I read a rather long thread from car owners that stay in a BNB, for whatever excuse. Turns out that the world at large has no idea how much it actually costs to charge one of the “electric” cars. Just plugging in while at someone else’s home is considered to be excessive. I understand the sentiment; one would never go out to the garage and siphon fuel for personal use (or would they?). Eventually, we’ll develop a system for charging personal vehicles at a fair tariff, but until then… oh, right. There are very few EV around. In fact, I haven’t seen any, but that could be due to a lack of charging stations. I mean, who wants to get “storm stayed” due to running the battery flat?

I’m not there, yet. I have managed to avoid empty fuel tanks for (pretty much) my whole life, although there was that one time when we were hitch hiking and got stuck in Kelly’s Cross. Another story, for another day.
