A bit of travel to put the season back on track

posted in travel |

Sometimes the best plan is no plan at all. We were up early this morning because we had company and it’s not polite to remain in bed when others are out and about. From there, things got all turned upside down. By lunchtime, the car was packed and at 13h00 all available team members were on the open highway, racing towards a storm and destiny. Take your pick.

Actually, I haven’t been “up to see the family” in ages (an undefined period of time, which may seem very long depending on the perspective of the view), and the storm wasn’t actually forecast to begin for about one day, so we weren’t taking too much risk. The van needs a last good roadtrip before it goes back to the stable. We made a pact not to argue over the small things, and to eat only when food was available. Enough of a compromise to allow for almost ten hours of highway driving. Pity I didn’t have a Tom Cochrane CD available.

The change in jurisidiction from Quebec to Ontario has some things worth observation. Their roads are better. Their ramps are impassible. Their police have a variety of lighting effects, and they use as many available cars as possible to signal even minor incidents. Their speeding fines are outrageous (and no, we didn’t get a ticket or any other imposition). Gasoline is cheaper but their gas bars along the highway are almost all under renovation, thus closed for now. We chose to act conservatively and fill the tank at any opportunity.

I went to a family party this evening… the younger generation is MUCH NOISIER than I ever was at that age. Right, Mom?
