Vexing vixen distraction
I finished formal schooling almost a lifetime ago. Once I decided that my time in a classroom chair were over, it was on to the next level in my education. Self-paced learning.
[[a moment of distraction: there’s a vixen on the lawn, and both dogs are telling me, in shrill voices, that their comfort zone has been interrupted]]
Having the two dogs in here, if only for a day, means that I’m also adapting my “hook and release” technique. Getting one dog I nside, another out, while assuring attachment to the house… not always simple. I can’t bribe with biscuits alone.
Where was I? Oh, yes, self-paced learning. My techniques have held up, under personal scrutiny, and I’ve learned to do a whole list of things that didn’t require any other investment beyond my time and toys. Anyhow, I’ve been listening to Mary Spender, as she gives tips on improving musical skills. Practice is a biggie, and the desire to improve is essential. While I wait for my new musical space to be complete, I’m trying to ramp up my plans to improve. As she alludes, it’s all up to me. I don’t have any imagined tunes, yet. That will come, once the instruments are at hand. Note my reluctance to sing my way to success.
I have been listening, though. So many excellent musicians who want to share ideas and actual playing skills with me, via the web. Magical. I was born long enough ago to remember when you needed to find a mentor and practice time according to a civilized clock. Now, I can simply point my browser, crank the volume up and then revel in the music.
