Stop rewarding incompetence
The evening has been dedicated to various software updates. The different blog installations are now using the latest version of WordPress. The different machines that are “dual-boot” now have the latest distribution of LinuxMint working (and it automatically configured the wireless stuff, which is worth mentioning). Even the various permutations of Windows have updated this afternoon. Everything is in order for the busy time of the holidays, where we soon tire of seasonal TV and depend on the laptops for distraction.
Too bad we couldn’t update our economy as easily. As the shopping for a new car begins (we still have a bit over three months, which means exactly 3.1 free evenings) I feel great frustration over the announcement from our shutdown parliament that we’re giving money to the “Big Three”. That we includes me. I’m already contributing more than enough to the North American automotive industry.
There’s supposed to be a certain value received in return for our car payment, and that value has been sliding steadily downward. We’re finishing up with the third lease of a Chevrolet product, and it will be our last if I have any input in the decision. To think that my tax dollars are going to add to their accumulated wealth is insulting, because the public should not reward industry for poor quality and poor planning. If you must spend my tax dollars on something other than health and education and (bite my tongue) national defense, don’t choose the happy recipient because their business model was once the pride of the economy. It isn’t any more. It won’t be, ever again. Move on and let the Three become One, or even None. Only the shareholders are going to notice. Qualified workers will find something else to do.
