My editor is limping

posted in computing |

I’m living the open source adventure these days. The most recent upgrade to WordPress wiped out the toolbars from the text editor, leaving an empty grid where the different buttons used to be. I’ve consulted the support forum, where others are faced with the same disfunction, but none of the advice offered by others fixes the problem.

And there’s the shortcoming of do it yourself programs. I could always retrograde to the last working version, with the risk that the database could break. I can wait for the next version change, rumoured to be only hours or days away. I can refresh my HTML skills and code in the various little tidbits (font changes, embedded links, etc), or there’s the write without embellishment choice.

I’d love to have the skill to fix code problems, but I’m still new to the world of PHP. Most times when I fiddle with things like template code, it takes a long time to get things right, although it does provide a degree of satisfaction. Right now, my ego doesn’t require much flattery, so the editor is going to be left for those better informed to repair.

At work, I did my first bit of setting up a training session by calendar comparison; it works, and there might be something to this whole Outlook business after all. In terms of email, the client is no better or worse than others I’ve used, but this whole area of collaboration is new to me. Until now, I’ve lived with a very simple calendar system; mark it on a posted paper and wait for the date to arrive.
