Contemplating a virtual meal

posted in health |

On the job danger; not always evident. Right now, the federal government is trying to explain how shipyard workers came into contact with lead-based paints in vessels purchased in Europe and sent for refit. Months of contact with lead-based paints. The horror!

Here’s the thing. Before we knew better, lead was common in our paints. Yes, even on things like baby cribs. And there were victims. But let’s be rational. If you are someone working in industry in the ‘20s, you shouldn’t be eating the paint off the walls. Yes, someone said it tasted good, but seriously. Are we now trying to keep everyone clear of self-harm? Just wear your mask. Oh, wait; that applies in so many other contexts.

Why, try to get your head around the last few days in the Trump circus. One after another, the people at the top are failing the test, and we’re waiting to see who will succumb first. Except… on Fox, someone said that Biden should not be elected, because he hasn’t tested positive (like the other guy). And unless he’s actually experienced the pain and stress of a fail (or is it a success?), how can he be prepared to take on the reins of power. You can’t make this foolishness up!

One public health office (in Ottawa), has recommended that households adopt a virtual format for the Thanksgiving meal. I haven’t figured out what that would be like. Would you fire up a Zoom session and show others what is on your plate? I can’t keep up with the innovative ways we’re adapting.
