My front yard as a wildlife preserve
The current uptick in our fox population might require that I improve my graphing skills. This morning, we had five in the front yard, and a rumour of two more behind the house. All without any interaction on our part. No treats. No siren songs. A dog that is astonished over having new acquaintances.
I can only think of one thing that has happened in the last two days: the mowing/raking of the field. Could this have beaten (in the old sense of English hunting) the local rodent population to a point where someone posted a sign on a fox BBS about the easy pickings at this address? I’ll see what the morrow brings.
Once again, Canada Post is slipping on my deliveries. A roll of cable that was spotted in Moncton on Monday is MIA. The “black hole of Dieppe” has also swallowed an order of granola bars, and I have to accept that this is the new normal. Free shipping? Only when the recipient time isn’t entered into whatever sort of cost/benefit analysis Amazon employs.
In NS, the premier has announced his intention to retire. Coming in lockstep with the announcement of a large scale inquiry into the recent “rash of shootings”, this has “triggered” some unfriendly press. Someone in my circle mused about what will fall from the branches, as the tree shakes. My guess is that the premier doesn’t care: he’ll be home in his slippers, long before the release of any real report. Funny how politicians have the such fortunate timing (always on their side).
