Change of scenery

posted in Wx |

Let the record show that despite my best efforts, winter has returned to the area. My procedural devices, such as installing a weather observation station, refusing to shortcut the lawn and dressing inappropriately for the weather did not keep the first snowfall of the season at bay. I shall have to develop other, more effective techniques for the future. We didn’t get the big storm that the weather channel promised, either.

First snow of 2008

This should not be judged as failure. We received less precipitation than relatives to the left and the right of us. The date is later than last year (five days is a lot for changing something as big as the onset of winter). The winter boots are still not out in the open. Even winter wipers still need to be installed.

Somehow, it doesn’t matter. We need snow, to remind us of our nordicity. The mayor needs something else to talk about on the news (hockey, parades, the circus, actuarial calculation; none suffice). The people who make their living piloting trucks dangerously along city streets at all hours of the day or night must share in a shrinking economy. And let’s not forget the ski hills.

This afternoon was spent training those who are a pay grade above me. Not always easy, and the topic (new features of an email client) pushed the envelope for points of interest, but I can now coast toward the end of another work week. Did you know that you can categorize just about anything with colours if you want to?

The provincial election debate is on, but not here. Instead, Kung Fu Panda has taken over our living space. A fair trade, in many ways.
