Everybody talking about it is not always a good thing
There’s a very popular talk show on local TV called Tout Le Monde En Parle which translates roughly as “Everybody’s Talking About It”. Great show, where guests from across the public spectrum are interviewed in a non-confrontational setting in front of a studio audience and the province at large. After all, what else is there to do on the average Sunday evening?
Now here’s the rub; we’re in the middle of a provincial election campaign, and there’s a government up for grabs. One of the talking heads, last week, apologized to the assembled following for not having done everything necessary to give them a winning situation up until now. Standard blather. Then the call went out to the opponents, to also apologize for similar crimes against humanity. Blather with hubris.
Over the weekend, the talking head in question declined to appear as a guest on the above talkshow. The host of the program expressed his repressed sorrow and the world continued to turn. Can we agree that this is where things should end? The talking head didn’t get that bit of political wisdom. We now have a public statement that the talking head feels offended, and the host (and all his staff) should apologize for the unfairness of a world where intelligence is not given its fair due.
Bingo! The press is having a field day with this one. Not only has the talking head proved a lack of political acumen; there has been a public attack upon a beloved of the masses. Somehow, this story might have legs. The public might not always know what it dislikes, but it does know when the “stupid bulb” is on over the goal.
