Refreshed my lights

posted in technology |

Pay attention, people. That concert you’re watching on YouTube (more than 60K, right now) is live, but it’s not LIVE. Important nuance. I’m referring to the Led Zeppelin concert, Celebration Days. Filmed in 2007. If you think that you’re getting something new and exciting, I hate to burst your balloon.

The music is still great.

I had to come up with a reason why one of my “to do” jobs hadn’t progressed (when asked, yesterday). It gets more and more difficult to blame the inclement weather, or a lack of materials, when my order came in months ago and has moved to a second “long term storage” location, in the garage. And so, when the wind dropped below gale force, and the temperature precluded my wearing a parka and doubled mittens, I brought the ladder up from the basement and got to work. A quick note: the ladder is longer than my usual one, and belongs to someone else. Saves me doing quirky positioning on that oh, so treacherous, top step.

My outdoor lights, the ones that hang above the garage door and the man-door, are getting old. Bought them before we moved here, so let’s go with five-plus years. In fact, one no longer does anything other than deflect errant birds. I installed these, so I felt secure in my technical abilities.

It took me a bit longer than I had predicted. Ever since the electricians played in the breaker panel, the labels no longer reflect reality. I had to do the tests to find what would actually kill current to my fixtures, on my own. And I did. The rain held off, and I now have two LED lights where the old ones used to be. All that remains is some after dark tests (these are motion sensitive), and I can make the job as done. Now to get on to the next thing on my list… once I find the list.
