Emptied seas and skies

posted in economy |

This stay-at-home life model has some interesting side effects. The price of gasoline has crashed. Webcam views from both the city and the country show an emptiness not seen (before) in my lifetime. Why I even found a decent article that discussed what to do with thousands of commercial airliners that have no place to go. That one is a logistical nightmare.

To give you an idea about how air travel is down, here’s a screen capture from my little app that shows who (in the largest sense) is passing through local airspace.

Empty, right? Well, I checked out some other areas here in the east, and we’re all seeing skies that are unobstructed by contrails. Good for the environment, at least. I can confirm that the seaways are similarly without traffic. I’m sure we’ll recover, but after a month, it won’t seem real.

The first bicycle left the property, today. Came back, too. Although a ride on roads free of traffic is a dream, the air is still pretty “chill”. Maybe in a couple of weeks.

And that sums up life right now. The parliament (reduced model) convened yesterday, in an atmosphere of decorum rarely seen without the Big Boss being in the city. It’s her birthday, apparently. But back to the actual seat of power, where the catcalls and off-tempo clapping were just not manifest. As one newspaper reported, it shows that the elected can act like adults. Now to convince them that this is the real thing, and not some simulation. Imagine! We could have an efficient governance.
