Slight risk of international jealousy

posted in economy |

Patience might be virtuous, but mine isn’t infinite. Now that my new hard drive has arrived, I’m trying to get my data from the old drive to the new one. Yes, I have the appropriate technology. Yes, I have done this sort of thing before, professionally. And no, it isn’t progressing quickly enough.

On the surface, all seems to be good. The right lights are on and flashing. It’s just… well, this has been going on for hours, and  it looks “stuck”. There is no secondary  indication of progress. I feel secure in my method; the original drive shouldn’t be damaged, and the new drive is NEW. I am already 80% of the way to complete, according to the light show. I guess I just want the job to finish, so that I can get on with my life.  Stuck in a technical limbo, and I am impatient. Is there a “turbo mode” that I haven’t noticed?

Locally, petroleum prices dropped by 6 cents per litre, just before I needed to tank up. Got it done, came home, checked my math and sent my financial news to a sibling (she who is in FL for now). Turns out, down there, the overalll price is about 20% lower. Even with the conversion from litres to US gallons and the conversion to their currency. In other words, we can’t get a leg up, ever. Life is cheaper to the south, and they don’t even have our freezing rain to contend with. If it wasn’t for their insane politicians, I could sink into international jealousy.

About the same time I (originally) posted, my drive cloning completed. All is well, after  all.
