The rock meets the pebble, again
I’m back in a good place. Another year, according to the calendar, but when I settled into my spot in front of the TV, it was as if only a few days had gone by.
The Scotties are back. A lot of familiar faces, and (to my inexperienced eye) a continuance of strategy. Throw, sweep, hit. That might be curling, of course.
I had to dig into Wiki, to see how many years have passed since that first “clean sweep” by Team Homan. Looks like seven. Similar stats for Team J. Jones, and that Arsenault girl from NS. Did I mention familiar faces, already?
Unlike the big sport, for Canadians (pro hockey), I don’t need a cheat to identify the teams. In passing, I gave up on memorizing player names in hockey a long time ago. Can we say “six teams” without confusing the kids?
Back to curling. What I would choose/lose is the colour commentary. Gets mind numbing, after a few hours. Also, those animated ads along the boards are distracting as all get out. So, get out, eh!
This is Saturday. By the end of next week, barring a TV failure, I’ll have logged a lot of armchair sports hours. Enough to maintain my level of personal skill in the game? For sure!
Caught a good view of the ferry moving through fresh ice, this afternoon. No impediment noted. I wonder if we can go for a whole year with no ferry interruptions (and no icebreakers)? It could happen. Of course, traditional winter isn’t over, just yet.
