Look back and laugh a little
Find your amusement where you can. Myself, in this few brief hours outside of election campaigns, I’ve turned to CBC for a retrospect on music as a force in politics. Not extensive, but enough to leave me with a few happy tears. Paris is hot!
We’ve put the federal cabal back to work, and the Americans are self-satisfied enough to keep them out of trouble for a few weeks. The local municipal comedy team has fixed election dates, so they’re off the radar. I know, the federals had a law, but who’s going to charge poor Stevie with anything; he showed us that he can spend with the best of them. No, this time around, it’s the junior varsity squad that wants the floor; our provincial premier made the stroll over to the Lieutenant-Governor’s digs (where are they now? One more local mystery) and requested dissolution of the National Assembly.
Just like the big kids, John of Sherbrooke wants a clear mandate. Or, at least, a few more of his team on the field during the next scrum. And if the noisy kid from down the block can be sent home for supper, well that will just make things better for all.
It will provide some expensive entertainment each day for the next few weeks, as the whole province is assailed with promises and threats. We might not even notice the onset of winter; with the temperature up to 16C this afternoon, and no wind for four days now, we’re obviously going to get some nasty weather soon. Maybe the hot air of an election sprint can keep the grass dry and the streets bare for a while longer.
