The visible effect of the wind
A confession: I did not attend the local public meeting last evening. The new windmills are a fait accompli, from where I sit, and all I can do now is watch out for my own belongings. After revisiting the “study” this evening (because 300 pages is a lot to ingest), I can say that the planners have respected the bylaw. The tower will be sited just over a kilometer from my front door, and in legal terms the “just over” is all that really matters.
A great deal of attention has been given to the possibility of finding Paleolithic remains in the middle of the forest. Minimal potential. Also, I now have a census (it seems) of every bat and pigeon that has passed this way in recent times. As for the people actually living here, keep reciting that “just over” as a mantra. The provincial government hopes to receive in excess of $2.5 million each year, and that buys a lot of comfort for those living in the big city. Hey, didn’t I always want to see a windmill, up close (NO!!).
The road work will be done this winter (translates as less mud season) and the actual install will be scheduled on the heel of the tourist season, next August/September. We don’t want the tourist trade to be forced to wait for any of the project fifteen big trucks…
Already, my kids are pricing the cottage possibilities, just not around here. After all, when you can avoid a waving white elephant in your own back yard…
Maybe the photographic possibilities will be breath-taking, although I’m not holding my breath.
