It’s oh, so quiet
What if I shopped as an idle, rich person? The former qualifier, I can claim. The latter, not so much. Anyhow, while in the city to do some other things, I ended up in my preferred store for consumer electronics (there’s only one, in my part of the world, so the choice came naturally). And, after navigating a maze formed from newly delivered large screen TV sets in shipping cartons, I ended up in the headphone section.
Specifically, the noise cancelling headphone section. That’s an important point. I rarely wear headphones around the house, and never in public. Don’t want to overdose on nerd cred. We actually used to have a set of NC earphones around here, but like most advanced gadgets, they no longer work. I was intrigued to see what was out there, now.
Bose still has their game. The only catch is the price point. I mean, half a grand for something I don’t need OR use? Please, I’m trying to reform. But, the two top-of-line models are really nice. And quiet. Noise-cancelling, don’t you know? I don’t pretend to understand the theory behind the invention, but when you put them on, the ambient noise of a box store is gone. All that remains is the calming voice of the manufacturer’s demo. Is this what they mean by ASMR?
I didn’t spend any money. (Yet??) Maybe the Black Friday sale will be the push required for someone in the house to get a pair. Meanwhile, I’ll read the technical reviews while listening to my own ear hiss. I’m at that age, don’t you know?
