Persistence is not always a virtue
I have to salute the persistence of the political class. Back in the summer of ’18, I had to provide my email address to one of the parties, in order to show solidarity with the aspirations of a cousin. No big deal. I have learned to accept the electronic message stream as part of life in the present day.
By breaking my anonymity, I became part of a planned revenue stream… apparently. As my contribution record shows, a balance of $0 beside my name shows that I tolerate opinions, without feeling the need to finance anything. However, my collection folder, as of this evening, contains a staggering 435 requests for something more than tolerance. They keep it simple: would I like to add $5/$10/$20/$50/$ “sky is the limit” to their balance sheet.
The numbers reflect denomination values, supposedly. As if that would make me more willing to open the cash spigot. Quick answer: not at all. I don’t believe in the party model. I consider it the bane of sane thought. I don’t care if X other Canadians have already “chipped in” because I eat my chips. Your fake enthusiasm, along with names of notables is insufficient to your cause. I don’t share.
Why the pressure, recently? Could it be tied to the upcoming elections, and the need to move large groups of supporters around the nation? Can’t they just walk, or send emails? There are no signs on my lawn, or buttons on my lapel. Not even a showy bumper sticker. I just don’t care, and if you all went south for the decade, I’d get along fine in your absence.
I’ll disable my subscription, soon. I want to see how frantic you can become before I mute you.
