Too big, too small, or not at all

posted in technology |

That feeling where your life is going down the fairy tale road: our RV has a dash mounted GPS. The maps are “outdated”, for lack of a better term. I spent some time reading up on the situation, and it seems I can purchase newer data from the manufacturer. So far, so good.

The web page mentions putting an SD card into the data port, and then using a generated ID number to allow ordering my update. I looked around, and found nothing that seemed to fit the card. In desperation, I read the manual, and learned that the DVD slot (hidden behind the screen on the dash) has a card slot, just beside it. Wow! Progress. Went out, and sure enough, a slot that could accept my SD card. Here’s where it gets tricky.

The first card I tried was “too big”, in terms of capacity. The second card I tried was “too small”, for the same reason. And the third card? Not there, yet. Haven’t got one. This is starting to feel like Goldilocks and the GPS. Maybe tomorrow, after I search through my drawer of unused gadgets. In the meantime, there’s always the smartphone.

I think the garden just grew some tomato plants. Or maybe that’s also a trick, involving a local greenhouse. I’ll wait for a few weeks and see if my salads improve. There was also some rhubarb came through the kitchen. The stems got washed, chopped and bagged for the freezer. Will there be a sour patch pie in my future? Stay tuned.
