At a midpoint

posted in environment |

Look at that: the year is half over, already. I know how the first half unrolled, and now I can start wondering about the next half. Our first visitors for the summer are on the road, and the lady of the manor may head out on a road trip with our neighbour as early as tomorrow. I’m good with that, having purchased two pizzas and some fish cakes already. The dog has his own bag of chow, so I won’t be required to share.

There are other issues, of course. The lawn continues to grow. The “big rig” goes in for its annual inspection on Tuesday. The strawberries don’t seem to be growing (OK, unsure on that last detail, but when I checked yesterday there were none waiting to be plucked).

To keep things in balance, the field below me is greening up nicely; looks like oats, to my unpracticed eye. Could be hay. I’ll wait until harvest to decide. A local crab boat went aground, yesterday, and the lifeguards-in-training assisted with the rescue. That’s newsworthy, anywhere. I didn’t actually see the boat, but the photo in today’s  media coverage showed the crab cages still on board, so I have to assume that there wasn’t a real shipwreck.

My foolish feed from a federal political party is now sending me request for money, daily, sometimes more than once a day. Here’s an idea; why don’t they actually campaign on what they can do, instead of what they want to spend. It shouldn’t cost “millions and millions” to get the attention of the public, when you have something worthwhile to say.
