Home on wheels, explored
Call it focus; having an interest in a particular subject is almost a guarantee that you will find places to explore your interest. We have been living in a “manufactured home” for almost five years. As well, recently, we have placed our faith in a mobile home, with all that implies. Seems normal that this afternoon we ended up in a museum devoted to both topics.
After a fashion, the two are interlinked. Rather than pouring a foundation, the deal is that your home will move to where you are. By extension, a mobile home will move with you to where you are. Anyhow, here in the green land of Indiana, just a few steps from the Interstate, we found a way to explore our interest, in a wonderful set of displayed objects, for most of the afternoon.
From the primitive tent trailer, through the wonders of Airstream and Winnebago, all the way up to the luxury land yachts of Getty and friends, the RV museum has it all.
This wasn’t a collection of photos. In fact, the museum founders and board of governors have gathered one of the best collections of actual RVs in the country. Going all the way back to the start of mechanized travel, folks have yearned for the comforts of home while on the road. Sure, it takes money, but isn’t being comfortable one of the best ways to use any (all) of your extra cash.
The chance to tour real RVs from back in the beginning, up until now, presents an intriguing timeline of technology. How best to get a)the living room sofa, b)the kitchen sink and c)a bed that is actually comfortable into a space that will follow you? Well, by carefully measuring, cutting and shoehorning the above objects, the industry has managed, amply.
