I’ll be champion
As we spend time on the road, we get better at the amenities. This morning, despite the rain, I decided to spend some time in a “rain room”, with soap and a towel. And a razor. The result: I look much more presentable. No photos, however.
After packing up, we left the big lake behind and headed west for our final ON stretch. Lots of places that I’d only seen mentioned in print now have a visual. Wiki gave us the “behind the scenes” on place history, and details like “Who was Frances?” and “Where was Rat Portage?” have bben answered. If ever I get my chance on Jeopardy, here is one category where I’ll be champion.
Sometimes, just the act of stopping to look can be worthwhile. A small railway museum in Kenora, closed until summer, had some rolling stock for the avid climber. It also got us an invitation inside to the museum to meet the pair busily revamping their displays. Fun. And rather than park in daylight, we pushed on for another few hours, into MB.
The landscape has changed. Much flatter. Roads are straight rather than serpentine. This evening we bypassed the big city with its rivers and headed for our third KOA in a row. Call it brand loyalty, or a desire for convenience, but stuff just works. Except for the water, in today’s sample. The whole site is in a rebuild phase after heavy flood damage from one of those rivers. No matter; our tank still sloshes. And tomorrow, we can play tourist some more. Maybe find a museum or something.
