With all the force of cooing pigeons
Tonight’s debate serves as one great reason for a change in our electoral system. By some strange quirk of fate, the politician who would best serve as a prime minister is the person least likely to have that opportunity. A sad conclusion to draw at a time when I’m supposed to make a decision.
This is not a time of strong political figures. The polls point to another minority parliament, and if I had to choose a leader all by myself I’d be “hard put”. The debate left me thinking about the doves that sit on rooftops around here; all saying the same thing, and the tone interchangeable. Nary a crow or an gull to be heard. From time to time, the leader of the Green party did stand out, because she had done her preparation and her answers were concise and coherent. Not so her neighbours.
On the other channels, the Biden/Palin faceoff. As one website had mentioned earlier, it would have helped if they’d allowed their avatars from SNL to take their place. Humour where possible. I doubt that their debate swung many voters.
Maybe I should cut my losses; instead of trying to get the snow tires mounted early, I could go and vote in an advance poll and know that my small role in democracy was played in the dress rehearsal. However, there’s going to be a rush at the tire stores this year, so I’d better remain on a rational path and get the important things done before day one of the snow season.
