Less time means a compromise
Over coffee, this morning, I decided to check the calendar. I quickly realized that an early morning appointment, tomorrow, meant getting to our next destination, today. And so we bookmarked our itinerary and headed west.
Distances can be deceiving. There was a gap between “next fuel stop” and “current fuel level”. We turned around in a nearby lane and the set the GPS to the morning’s starting point. This did not compute as a return trip; we found the only closed bridge in the area and went into detour mode. Which got more complicated… after tracing several rectangles, we decided to break for lunch.
And quiet. The CO detector went into fault mode, letting out a screech every thirty seconds. First we purchased a new battery while getting fuel (not everyone sells Diesel, in the city). Didn’t solve the noise issue, so we sought a fuse, which would have also shut down the refrigerator. Then we figured out how to disconnect the power cable and called upon the local hardware store for a suitable replacement. I don’t care that the new piece is a different shape; function over form
Enough fun for one morning. The map showed us an alternate route (longer) to our evening halt, but with better refueling options.
And so, as I compose, we are within night glare range of sons #1, #2 and #3. Soon we’ll park in his yard and prepare for a big city night (that’s where we sleep despite the sounds of traffic). Food will be optional. Tomorrow, new adventures.
