Don’t fix what isn’t broken

posted in environment |

This morning, during our community group meeting, I think we dodged a “bullet”. Or, at a minimum, a muddy quagmire. You see, last year during the annual general meeting, it was mentioned that we would examine the existing bylaws document, and bring forth any proposed changes to the next AGM. As is, just over a month from now. A whole year; you can work wonders in a year…

I was tasked with seeing what might be needed, in terms of modifications. And so I read. And typed. And read some more. And came to the realization that what we had (already) served us well for close to two decades.

This morning, I pointed that out, succinctly. In keeping with the philosophy of “don’t fix what isn’t broken”, I suggested a couple of small, cosmetic changes. And it passed! Nobody wanted to parse language that is consulted on a “rarely if never” basis. We’ll present the amendments, in due form, and get on with our lives. Or as the Bible says: Hallelujah!

This is an international  holiday for those with roots in Ireland. I’m no longer part of the “go green and get green” crowd any more, so I kept it very low key. Checked out the score of a big Irish rugby game (a win over the neighbouring kingdom). Watched a few minutes of various parades. Listened to a few bars of appropriate music. Dreamed about (but did not eat) any corned beef and cabbage. Took solace in knowing that I’d made the right decision.
