Vacation choice

posted in environment |

Off our east coast, the seal hunt is underway. A few people will make a small amount of money for very physically difficult work; an opportunity that may disappear within a few years.

Meanwhile, in the meanest sense of the word, another small group of people have descended on the area, to manifest their displeasure with the seal hunt.

Let’s compare and contrast, shall we? The first group are trying to earn a living. The second group is there on their leisure time, and an odder vacation choice I cannot imagine. The “earn a living” factor isn’t there, and the protesting serves only to draw donations from other less informed people.

Worse, the press is reporting that a convicted demonstrator has come to PEI from California, to serve his jail time in lieu of paying a fine. He has announced his intention to undertake a hunger strike. Truly an odd vacation choice, and vocation choice.

If you choose not to eat, I respect your rights entirely. Bonne voyage!
