A first visit to the parts store

posted in technology |

After receiving a suggestion about an effective nut remover (keep the jokes, please), I Googled the brand name, so as to avoid appearing like the total newbie that I am. For those who want to buy in, without doing their own testing, the product is known as “PB B’laster Penetrant”. I can’t tell you if it works well, but I now own a small aerosol container. Details to follow.

What was interesting is that this is sold locally, in the auto parts store on Main Street. The one that I’ve never visited, until now. I decided to make my visit worthwhile, so I took the time to research the model of oil filter needed for the lawn tractor, should I decide to get into maintenance in a major way. Wrote down a whole list of equivalent part numbers.

And that’s what tweaked the clerk’s interest. I guess he usually gets people with a minimum of information, forcing him to spend time looking up things. I circumvented the task, earning a heartfelt thank you and an invitation to come back and shop for mower stuff in future.

The store was larger than I expected, with full service behind the counter. When you can save folks a trip to the city (two hours return) your business gets to be popular. Remember, I haven’t had much need for car parts, but as our own vehicle gets older (and closer to being ours in the financial sense) I may need to add value; filters, fluids, the occasional nut or bolt. Glad to know that there’s a place for such follies.

On another subject, my people dataset crossed the 65K point, overnight.
