Just make the digits larger, not more
Some comments do not shame me, for I am shameless (shamefully).
I”ve been under fire, because I do not phone people, often. Not never, but close. And there is a valid reason. Not that I fear the apparatus. Rather, that finding the number is more complex than before. I grew up in a society where we remembered phone numbers. The digits were not more than we could store in short term memory. Five, OK. And along the way, the phone company upped the ante, requiring ten digit dialing. Almost as if I had to call, twice.
As my visual acuity subsided, the available tools (telephone directory, a case in point) meant that looking up a number became complex. One misdial, and I could be conversing with that Amazon guy that insists I have just bought another smart phone.
I am aware that you modern people have many different ways to place a call, going beyond memorization. Not I, says he. I can recite the digits on my first phone number (five of them), and at a stretch I can give you data for friends in school that I haven’t seen in decades. However, I also have friends, seen more recently, and their number is a mystery. Ditto for my spouse, my siblings, my former office. Etc.
So, last evening, since I am shamefully shameless, a large piece of paper was affixed to the china cabinet, and in digits that are 72 point (or more), the phone number was/is posted of a close friend. Let it be known that a call was completed, and he remembered my voice, and I will now have to phone more often.
Next up: my family. I can startle so many people, once I get started.
