Batteries required
To anyone who proclaims that one shouldn’t “sweat the small stuff”, I want to disagree. So will the premier of Ontario, who managed to swallow a bee, on camera. A couple of days ago; at last report he is still alive, although the fate of the bee remains unknown. Moving right along.
Several days ago, coincidental to the bee incident, we lost control of our air conditioning system. Specifically, the chiller. Turns out that the unit has no On/Off switch. Just a tiny remote control unit, that hangs on the wall awaiting input. Of course, the tiny pile of buttons uses AAA batteries, which are only available (to us) at the local general store. In the morning. And so we fretted. Could the whole thing be broken? What might that cost?
Remember, don’t sweat the small stuff, even if the air conditioning is out. In the morning, a fresh package from Duracell brought comfort. But, it could have been so much worse.
As an aside to the design engineer who decided that a power switch was too much; I hope you have a hot month. What provokes a company to go cheap on things like a power switch? Yes, I have access to the breaker panel, which was required to awaken the dragon with cold breath. I would have preferred some old school technology. Tiny remote controls also fail to show the state of the battery set.
There has to be a better way (and don’t say that I should always keep spare batteries on hand. I have a lot of gadgets that make that into an impossible demand. Batteries Required is a reality.
