One of the good ones is getting away
Like the birds, politicians are generally (worth about) a dime a dozen. And there are more of them than we realize. We like to be governed, apparently. Politicians are similar to birds in many ways: two legs, often dressed in flamboyant colours (those ties!), squawking and hopping about making lots of noise. We tolerate them, seasonally.
And, like birds, there are good ones. Rarely. Today I read the press release from a good one. For simplicity, call her Catherine. She’s been in service for one season; four years, and has now decided to do something else with her talents. You might have seen her linkded to an (infamous) orange sweatshirt. Because, in the world of politicians, your plumage should match those of your extended circle (those ties!).
Our Catherine wasn’t/isn’t like the others. She actually has something to say, and a strict sense of service to others. I have taken the time to read some of her opinions, listen to some of her opinions and taken the time to formulate some of my own. Here’s a detail, among many. She actually understands the logistical challenge of getting across the city using public tramsport. Not many politicians can pass that acid test.
Now, think back on all those politicians that have worked for you, over the years. Pause, take a deep breath and then tell me whoat most of them actually did to earn your trust and your tax dollars. Don’t lose your temper. Just keep in mind that, like the birds, there are many, and most of us don’t need expert nest builders and featherers in our service. Moving along, with a better sense of how useless our political system is.
Of course, being a member of a really minor party makes your battles into combats firt for Man of La Mancha. Shadow boxing with a faceless opponent. But, she will be missed.
