I have to salute the farsighted people who did a rather decent job of photographing this area over the last eighty years. Not complete coverage, but close. When we decided to purchase our property, we could “see” what we were getting, from a historical perspective. And now I wonder…

In celebration of spring (as referenced by a croscus blossum in the front yard), I wind on the offensive. The BBQ is now back in its place of homour. Dito for the table and chairs that continue to be a heavy lug up the grade from below our deck. No need to think about them (for another six months). This is an annual event, and my deliberate transfer of the BBQ sections, through the kitchen, would appear odd to any onlooker. Thankfully, there were none.

Based on the number of hints I’ve received over the last few days, it’s time to unpack my toys and get something done in the new basement. Put the radio gear on display, and put the music gear within reach. I can do this: it’s not my first time.

This morning, we turned our home into a tiny laboratory, to perform some applied science experiments. The new “juice box”, received yesterday, needed to be tested for its intended purposes. For example, could we use it to evaporate excess water from scalp hair? Yes. How about, extract essential oils from crushed seeds, to prepare an essential beverage (brewing coffee)? Again, yes. And finally, would we be able to prepare simple menu items, such as grilled cheese sandwiches? On all tests, success. Two thumbs up. Now we just need the green light for some camping/glamping. I will delay any other tests, such as recharging the “juice box” using solar panels until we actually acquire some.

As proof of my patience, today the Fedex van returned. Not to get stuck in the ditch, but to deliver a purchas made bacin in August of last year. In real time, eight months. I pandemic time, meh.

I am fortunate to live in a place with fresh air, greenery, a selection of wildlife, an ocean close by. And very little motor vehicle traffic. In fact, when something unusual is heard, it’s worth checking on the source. This morning, I could hear what seemed to be a motor revving, close by. Looked out the window, saw nothing out of the ordinary. Opened the door and confirmed that there was a new noise, just beyond the treeline.

As a parent, it would be better if my children did not realize how little I actually know about many things. They have a covenant with me. And yes, as they get older, they may have caught hints; glimpses behind the curtain, if you will.

Based on the display panel, the winds had stopped. Completely. As in, “don’t let the tree tops fool you”. But I knew it wasn’t so. The dog had developed an aversion to wandering around outside, because the world was covered in a thin layer of ice.

Yes, I’m almost two years late on this particular task. No, I have no excuse. We now have a complete set of maps for where we spent our evenings, almost two years ago. Next time, I’ll get it done before I (once again) reaffirm just how whispy memories can be. You see, I have all the tools required. Technology, to the max. And yet, in looking over some of the places, I recall nothing. Was CT really that boring? I couldn’t leave my story hanging in the badlands of MT, but I’m happy to put this puzzle back in the box. Seven weeks in the life of a family, with a minimum of travel experience.

Today, check the calendar before doing something silly. On social media, the announcement from our heritage department that one of our historic sites had been rented out for the summer seemed legit. I mean, in these trying times, business needs a helping hand. When the next paragraph mentioned that the historic home would be used as the set for one of those extended dating dramas, something clicked.
