Matching the lens and the body

posted in photography |

Today’s lesson in hardware configuration has to do with matching an older lens to a newer camera body. It’s not all about the mount, apparently.

The symptom pointed to the lens; no aperture info going into the camera “brain”. Turns out that the little switch beside the aperture ring (on older Pentax gear) actually has a reason for being there. Once we committed to auto aperture, everything came alive. Next stumbling block, a timer that wanted to play. All the time. Again, a configuration adjustment. Now, even the newest camera in the house will do macros in fine form.
