A poll, a park and some spicy pork

posted in history |

Strangest thing… I just hung up the phone, after a long distance call from a pollster, wanting to know if I supported the current prime minister. The only reply is “Of course. I support them all. I pay taxes”. Without getting lost in the maze of twisty little passages (complete with a thief that steals all your belongings), I now wonder if an election is closer than it appears in the mirror. It would be silly to go out on the hustings at a time when most voters can’t find their own houses due to the snowfall.

Before we continue, here’s the three year view of things from my driveway.

The local newspaper contained an insert magazine celebrating the centenary of our local “big” park, the Plains of Abraham and its daughters. Perhaps the development vultures were away that year, otherwise how did the government find the money and intelligence to establish one of the great green spaces in Canada. According to the paper, Lord Grey was largely responsible; good to see that he did more than contribute a football trophy to the heritage shelf. There’s a great picture of the Cote Gilmour, when they were busy cutting down trees and making a road (that remains closed for half of the year, due to snowfall).

I could have gone this afternoon and stood in line to see the Stanley Cup. Instead, I’m making a huge pot of curried pork, in a sauce with coconut milk as the base. I found a neat jar of Madras curry paste, which reminded me to cook the ingredients before eating. Believe it or not, there’s no confusion between its odour and that of jam or peanut butter. If anything, it brought to mind the magical substance called vegemite.
