Another TV show about nothing at all
The Boss wrote about it: “57 Channels (And Nothing On)”. Seinfeld et al made a series within a series about it: “Yeah, but nothing happens on the show. You see, it’s just like life.” For those who doubt the veracity, here’s my latest offering for proof that nature abhors a vacuum, even if the only opting is to fill it with yet more vacuum. Up on one of the really rarely visited cable channels, I watched an episode of Tow Biz.
Now, to be fair, I don’t really know much about their business. I mean, I try to avoid having someone attach a big hook to my car and drag it along behind them. I’m reasured that if the need arises, somewhere there is a garage who will take the buggy back to the barn. But, a whole TV show about a guy that picks up a Ferrari so that the owner can continue his night in the clubs, in Toronto? Now we’re stretching the envelope.
Here’s a little free publicity for the featured artist… Carisma Flatbed & Towing Ltd. After all, there aren’t that many Ferraris to rescue on any given evening, so the business model might not get a two thumbs up from the people at Dragon’s Den.
I do have one great tow truck memory. Back in senior high, we had an ice storm on the first afternoon of March Break. As my buddy started down the slight incline leading away from my high school, we saw a car up ahead, sort of in the ditch. We didn’t get to stop and stare, because we slid straight into the side of the school VPs’ car, with the driver ed teacher as a passenger.
No sense being embarrassed; this was an accident. The towing service was called, and when the driver arrived, he looked things over, went up the hill to turn, came back down and simply pancaked my buddy’s car into the middle of the first vehicle. Two cars, totalled. The tow driver was another student, and he also realized that sometimes things don’t work out exactly as planned. I only wish I had a picture to share, because the expressions (all around) were priceless.
